Q. Where did Pilates originate and by who?

A. The Method of Pilates was originally introduced by a man called Joseph Pilates who was born in 1880

in Germany. During his growing up he knew he was not the strongest or most physically gifted child

around. He gradually over time became a very gifted sportsman who very quickly developed talents in a

range of sports from Boxing through to diving and even gymnastics.From his keen interest in various

sports which conditioned his body in various ways, all this these contributed to the Pilates method we all

know and today. He originally called his method contrology -- the complete coordination of body, mind

and spirit.
